Small World
It took me a while to catch on to this, but I experienced something rather strange today. I'm not particularly proud of it, but I have 3 ex-husbands. I got emails from ALL THREE of them in the past 24 hours. This is pretty surreal, considering how rarely I hear from 2 of them.
My first attempt at matrimony was to A. What it boils down to is that we were old enough, but not emotionally mature enough to handle it. I was a real mess, as a matter of fact - and things imploded in a short 2 years. We parted on fair enough terms but not running in the same circles, we never saw each other again.
Not content with screwing THAT up, I went straight to dating and then marrying B. Between dating and pre-separation, we were together 7 years. Legally we were together for an additional year but that was merely paperwork. We've had to stay in touch because we still work together :) We get along pretty well as coworkers.
A wrote to tell me that he'd gotten up to 5 shots of insulin a day but now is using an insulin pump and how much better he's feeling. He talked a bit about his wife and kids (they have 3 now) and to ask how things are going. It was really cool to hear from him. We reconnected about 5 years ago - having Katie inspired me to reconnect with people that have influenced my life and even though things went wonky with us, he was very special.
B wrote to tell me that the other cat we adopted passed away this week. She must have been about 12 years old - same as my Toby. Her kidneys shut down :( Poor thing. She was jet black and had the most petite little feet I've ever seen on a cat. She also terrorized the dog, which was funny to watch :) I know B really loved her, I was sorry to hear of her passing.
And D was writing to let me know that Katie will be well cared for while I'm away on business in March.
It feels kinda like the crossing-the-streams scene from Ghostbusters to hear from them all at once, but it was also kinda cool. So many people split on horrible terms - I'm glad we didn't.
I don't have anything earth-shattering to say about it just yet. Knowing me, I'll probably be up late tonight pondering the meaning of it all :)
