Christmas Questions
borrowed from Annathy :)
1. Hot Chocolate or apple cider?
Hello? This is me. Hot chocolate. Cold chocolate. Hot chocolate with chocolate truffles.
2. Turkey or Ham?
for Christmas I prefer ham. Actually, I prefer lasasgna... :)
3. Do you get a Fake, real from a lot, or you cut it yourself Christmas tree?
fake. Growing up, we always had live trees with the root ball attached, then would plant them in the yard. Every year, my brother and I got horribly sick with allergies. Mom and Dad switched to a fake tree and voila, allergies gone! So rather than tempt fate, I stick with fake. And last year, I bought a pre-lit tree. Sheer heaven.
4. Decorations on the outside of your house?
a few. I'm short, can't reach very far and ladders are not my friends :) Lets see.. lights on the shrubbery (a shrubbery!), wreath on the door, a mini-garden flag, bows on the light fixtures (reminder: get lightbulbs!). Is that it? I'm slacking off in my old age.
5. Snowball fights or sledding?
Yes :)
6. Do you like hanging around the fireplace because it's warm?
Yes and because it's lovely :) On my wish list: convert the woodburning fireplace to gas logs.
7. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping?
downtown? nah. Not when I live in the land o'shopping centers (suburbia)! Online is fun and efficient, but I still like going out on Christmas eve just to be in the middle of the bustle for a while. Then I go home and let my Introverted self recover!
8. Favorite Christmas song?
"The Christmas Song" .. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...
no.. Silent Night... no! the Charlie Brown music! oh heck. I love nearly all of them (except those involving Jingle Cats or Dogs) Let me put it this way. I have more Christmas cd's than will fit on a shelf in my cd cabinet. Don't make me choose!
9. How do you feel about Christmas movies?
fabulous - I hope my heart never hardens against them
10. When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music?
never :) Break them out in the summertime.
11. Stockings before or after presents?
Hmmm... I don't remember ... I think we usually did it after, mostly because they were behind other stuff
12. Carolers, do you or do you not watch and listen to them?
It's usually me doing the caroling :)
13. Go to someone else's house or they come to you?
On the road again! Especially now with a child and visiting all the grandparents, etc.
14. Do you read the Christmas Story?
Hmmm - we have a big stack of Christmas books and a couple of them are THE Christmas story... I should make a point to do that this week.
15. What is your favorite thing to do at Christmas?
Christmas Eve service with my family. Dad recently retired from the ministry and I now get to sit beside him. Now it's my brother that's leading the service. That is SO cool.
16. What is your favorite holiday smell?
hot cider - cinnamon - pine
17. Ice skating or walking around the mall?
Errr... considering my State of the Ankle, I better stick to walking!
18. Favorite Christmas memory?
We lived in Charleston WV - or more accurately, "up a hollow" outside of town. I was about 13 and my brother was 5. Dad had a radio that would pick up a wide range of frequencies. He took a walkie talkie, stood outside under the window, and Santa "talked" to my brother. Watching Rob's eyes sparkle like that was amazing. And it was cool to be the big sister and be "in on" the secret.
Another good memory is of the four of us (Dad, Mom, Rob and I) lighting the advent wreath and singing Christmas carols in 4 part harmony. Lovely little moments like that.
19. Favorite part about winter?
The snuggling
20. How do reindeer fly?
They think happy thoughts like Peter Pan
21. Do you like to give or receive?
give give give
22. Do you send holiday cards?
typically, but this year I haven't even addressed the first one. Gulp!
23. Is Santa real?
absolutely
24. Is Rudolph real?
Hmm.. well, he's probably pretty old by now. I'm guessing it's a descendent.
25. Ever kissed under mistletoe?
yes - and hope to again soon ;) for at least an hour. Is that greedy?
26. What goes on the top of your tree?
Angel. Thankfully, not the cat.
27. Thoughts on Eggnog:
none for me, thank you
28. Certain person you want to kiss under mistletoe?
oh yes. Emphatically. Now if the timing would cooperate.. I may have to leave the mistletoe up for awhile ;)
29. Favorite winter sport?
snuggling ;)
30. Favorite Christmas movie?
I'll have to make that a plural!
Kids fare:
Veggie Tales "The Toy that Saved Christmas" is an adorable video.
Charlie Brown is a given, I think
It's a Wonderful Life - I know, I know, it saturated the market awhile back, but I still love it.
Love Actually - it's great any time of year for the love stories, but is especially appropriate at Christmas :)
Elf - sweet and hilarious
A Christmas Story - you'll put your eye out!
Scrooged - Bill Murray. Carol Kane. Oh my.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - Chevy Chase.
The Santa Clause - Tim Allen (and Bernard the angry elf is the hunk on Numb3rs !)
Can you believe I've never seen Miracle on 34th Street?
Gosh. Did I leave any out? Home Alone is cute, Die Hard is "fun", if that's the right word - but the ones I listed above are uber-faves.
and I think we should add "Life of Brian" just to mix things up a little
31. Think the holidays are overrated?
Define overrated. Should we celebrate family? The coming new year? Encourage giving and kindness and taking care of those who need a hand? HELL yeah.
